After seeing an ad scroll across the bottom of her computer screen that read “No girl should be for sale”, Jan Harmon was heartbroken and knew she had to do something. The ad took her to Tiny Hands International’s website. Friends of Missions founder, Chad Gust, was onboard with fundraising from the beginning and opened his office for the annual Christmas House product sales in 2010 that raised about $2,000.
The first big fundraising event was in June 2012. It was a concert called “Rock to Stop” at The Church at Rutledge. Approximately $8,000 was raised from the concert for Tiny Hands International.
Tiny Hands International opened Asha’s House, a home for disabled girls who have been rescued from human trafficking in Nepal. Jan organized a “Bike-a-Thon” that raised about $20,000 for Asha’s House.
Donated items were collected throughout the year and an annual yard sale was hosted under tents in the parking lot of Gust Construction Company. The yard sale became highly anticipated and grew every year, raising close to $30,000 for Love Justice International (formerly Tiny Hands International) and Nueva Esperanza in Honduras.
We hosted a "Dine & Discover" Missions Banquet at First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, TN. $68,000 was raised and benefited Love Justice International in Nepal, Nueva Esperanza in Honduras and our local Lakeway Foster Care & Adoptive Parent Association.
Due to COVID-19 and our inability to hold in-person fundraisers, donors were encouraged to give directly online. All donations given helped us to continue our mission of supporting over 600 children and families around the world.
As we continue to let the effects of the pandemic subside, we decided to host an un-banquet event where our generous sponsors renewed their sponsorships, individuals gave as if they were at the banquet and all funds were given directly to the non-profits we support.
Friends of Missions is building a house in the Lochmere Subdivision in Morristown, TN utilizing donated services and materials. This house will be sold in the summer of 2024 and the profits will be donated directly to the four nonprofit organizations supported by Friends of Missions. This project is being managed by our Chairman, Chad Gust, General Contractor with Gust Construction Company.
